Maria Kozaczkowa memorial Municipal Public Library in Dąbrowa Tarnowska is a cultural institution of the local government. Library traditions in Dąbrowa date back to the beginning of the 19th c., to the activity of the Advance Association and the Association of Folk Schools. In 1984 the library was named after a poetess of Powiśle Dąbrowskie region, Maria Kozaczkowa. Main tasks of the library include gathering, preparing and lending library collections, particularly publications concerning our "small homeland". The library caters for demands of the local population in domains of book lending, providing information, offering cultural and educational opportunities and events. For the town and commune it functions as a research and self-education centre. It popularizes literature, cultural and educational organizations, attracts passionate and creative people. It works on the regional bibliography comprising all literature on the town, commune and the county as well as the bibliography concerning eminent people of the region, including also historic, social and cultural events important for the local community. Every year the library organizes numerous events for the readers: a meeting with writers, contests, lectures on literature and history, special exhibitions promoting artists of Powiśle Dąbrowskie region. The annual calendar of events includes cyclic contests of reciting (Maria Kozaczkowa memorial contest), ecology, fine arts, and knowledge about literature. The library offers hobby clubs of: fine arts, model building, theatre "Chochliki", reciting as well as a leisure program - summer and winter holidays in the library, prophylactic and integrating meetings for children and teenagers.

The book collection of the library contains about 100,000 volumes of fiction for children, teenagers and adults, popular scientific books, regional publications and current magazine issues. Information on the collections is provided by catalogues: alphabetical, titles, subjects. Since 2003 Internet reading rooms have been available, works on computerization of the library are in progress.

The library consists of: children’s section, the section for adults and teenagers, the section of book collection and preparation; library branches function in: Gruszów Wielki, Nieczajna Górna, Smęgorzów and Szarwark.
